Pointe-Claire is one of those places people move to and then never really leave: right on Lac Saint-Louis, in the middle of the West Island, with a settled, tree-lined feel that takes decades to grow. I'm based just west in Vaudreuil-Dorion and work the West Island daily. Here's the honest read on living here, and on buying or selling in it.
Life in Pointe-Claire
The lake and the Village are the heart of it. There's a genuine town centre here, which is rare in a suburb: the point, the stone church, a walkable main street with shops and cafes, and boats in the water all summer. Away from the water you get mature neighbourhoods with big trees and generous lots, parks, the aquatic centre, the library, and good schools in both languages.
It's an easy community to belong to, built around the lake, the parks, the sports leagues and the schools. It's strongly anglophone but bilingual through and through, and people who grow up here often come back to raise their own kids. That's the real draw: not just a house on a good street, but a town with a heart to it.
The homes, and the market
Pointe-Claire is mostly single-family homes, and many are mature: solid mid-century houses on established streets, plenty updated or renovated, with newer builds, condos and townhomes mixed in. The waterfront and near-water streets are their own category, at a premium and rarely available.

For a lot of people, yes. It's an established West Island city on the lake, with mature family neighbourhoods, good schools in both languages, parks and waterfront, a walkable Village, and an easy commute downtown. It suits families and anyone who wants a settled community close to the water.
How's the commute downtown?
Manageable. You've got Highway 20 and Highway 40 by car, plus two exo commuter train stations in the city with a straightforward ride downtown. Many residents take the train and skip the traffic. Trudeau airport in Dorval is close as well.
